Triathalons For Beginners

Let me tell you a little bit about a sport unlike any other. Let me tell you about a sport that is in a category all by itself. Let me tell you about a sport with unappreciated challenges. Let me tell you why it’s not for sissies.

I’d like to talk a little about the sport of triathlon, and why it is the best. First it is made up of three sports in one. To be the best it isn’t good enough to be just a good runner, or a good, cyclist, or a good swimmer. In fact good in any of these categories is simply not good enough for anything but second place, and second in my opinion is just the first looser.

In most triathlons the order is as follows swim, bike, run. I would imagine that you swim first because race organizers and directors wouldn’t want you to drown from fatigue if it were in any other order. However, I have seen it in different order before.

There are a few different types of triathlon. Let me begin with the sprint distance. This is generally about a 300 to 500 meter swim, followed by a 13 to 18 mile bike ride, wrapped up with about a 5k run. Next is the Olympic international distance triathlon. This is a bit longer and tougher. It starts with a mile swim, not a walk in the park some people can’t even make it passed the swim. Then you transition to a 25 to 30 mile bike ride. Don’t misunderstand though; this is no casual ride through your neighborhood. Competitive speeds for top level athletes average 20 plus miles per hour. Then from the bike you make your way to the 10k run to the finish. Last and certainly not least is the grueling ironman. First you begin with an unparalleled swim of 2.4 miles. Then if you’re still standing upright make your way over to the 112 mile bike portion, which is just as long as some of the Tour De France stages, need I say more. Cap this bad boy off with a marathon distance run of 26 miles 385 yards and you’ve done it.

So, what do you think are you up for the challenge?

When I did cross country in middle school we ran about two miles. A good runner, for a girl, I would say could run the two miles in around twelve-fifteen minutes, because as you know cross country has different terrains like hills and running through woods.

The best way for her to get better is to simply run. For a week she could practice by running 1 mile. The next she could bring it up to a mile and a 1/2 or if she wants 2 miles. The best way to get better is to run and I find it helps if you have a timer so you can see yourself improving.

I have never ran track but the one your niece probably would perfer, depends on whether she is a sprinter or a long distance runner. In cross country it isn't mainly about how fast you are but how much endurance you have. If she wants to be a good cross country runner, after practicing for a few weeks or so, she should be able to run two miles without repetedly stopping but she should keep a good pace.

That is the key in cross country. You have to keep a good pace. Make sure you don't speed up, then slow down almost to a walk, then start running again, because that isn't the way to run cross country. You have to keep a good, but fast, even pace.

If she's more of a sprinter, and likes the idea of running fast with all her might she may be more of a track person. Because in cross country you won't be able to run as fast as you can for two miles. It will tire her out to quickly.

So basically what I suggest is that your niece spends some time at a nearby track, or running around the block, and finds out whether she likes the whole long distance running, or if she would rather sprint the mile in track.

do a little distance running. mid distance would probably be best. try 400m – 800m running or 300m sprinting.

you need to slowly get used to being in oxygen debt.

i wouldnt suggest keeping a diaper on, those things absorb so much water and then they explode this nasty stuff all over and its just a big mess, anyways just let em go naked, their babies, and like you said if there is an accident just dump it out, and i wouldnt suggest a swim suit to catch the poop, thats gross and is going to cause a bigger mess then if it just goes into the water,
lol think of it as starting her off using a really big potty lol

oh and in reguards to the first answer thats kind of gross if you dont clean out the little swimming pool everyday, i can understand a bigger one, but not one that is baby sized…………. just my own opinion though
