An ideology is a group of ideas a person or group holds about issues such as human life, culture, government, etc. There are a number of places that a personal ideology can stem from. In the studies that have been done, it seems that the beginning stages of forming one's ideology start from parental views. These views are learned as one grows up in the home. Then, as that person ages and goes through the education system, their personal ideology continues to be shaped and molded from their peers, teachers, and the education they receive (especially in subjects pertaining to government and politics). For those with religious views, there are ideological standards and beliefs from that form of religion that heavily affects the ideology of the individual as well. So it is clear to see that one's personal ideology is influenced from a number of sources.

One issue that continues to be a hot topic today is the issue of abortion. Different people's personal ideologies will affect how they view and what they believe on the topic of abortion. Some of the major ideological groups, however, tend to have similar viewpoints that those who fall into those groups share.

Those with a liberal ideology believe that the government shouldn't support traditional values at the expense of those that are less traditional. They believe that the government should do more to solve the problems of America. Therefore, they would lean towards allowing abortions, because though the traditional view would say it is wrong, new traditions throughout the country see abortion as being okay. Allowing abortions would rather be a help to society. It would help control the population, there would be fewer women on welfare, illegal and unsafe methods would cease to be practiced, etc.

On the populist side, they would say that abortion is wrong, thereby staying close to the traditional values. They would say that it is the responsibility of the Government to see to it that abortion ceases to be practiced. They would say that the government should do more to prevent it, provide education regarding it, pass laws against it, etc.

Those with a conservative ideology would work to prevent abortions because of the traditional values that disapprove abortions. They would say that government should stay completely away from providing any kind of funding or help for abortions or similar treatments.

Finally, the libertarians would say that abortions would be legal everywhere, but government should not be involved in funding abortions or like treatments. They would say that government, aside from allowing abortive procedures, should stay out of the issue as much as possible.
