Wood Screws For DIY Enthusiasts
April 23, 2011 by Jason58 · Leave a Comment
No matter what type of wood work project you are wanting to tackle, you cannot get far without wood screws. Wood screws are used to fix two pieces of wood together, it is also used to fix another object such as a door handle or a hinge to a piece of wood.
In fact we need wood screws for so many things that the proper use of wood screws should be known by everyone who owns a house. This way you will never have to worry when a hinge or door handle comes loose.
The wood screw
Wood screws are made of either steel, brass or stainless steel. The wood screw consists of three important parts: The screw head, the screw shank, and the screw thread. Its unique design allows wood to be firmly joined to another wooden piece or another object.
The screw head
The screw head is the section of the screw you see when the screw has been screwed into a piece of wood. What you usually see is a flat round head which has either two intersecting lines or a single line across. The heads come in three different shapes. There is either the round screw head, the flat head screw or the oval head screw. The head and slots allow the screw to be turned into the wood using a screw driver or drill. When the screw is properly inserted the head is the only part of the screw you should see.
The screw shank
The shank is the tail part of the screw. It is the part which will join the two pieces together. It is long and sharply pointed at the end. This allows for the screw to be driven through the wood. Screw shanks comes in different sizes, longer ones offer a better hold into the wood. Different sizes are used for different jobs.
Threads:
Threads are ridges that wrap around the shank. The threads allow the screw to grip and hold more tightly. You can easily be confused between a dry wall screw and a wood screw because they both have threads around them, however there is a difference. A dry wall screw will have a thread which goes from the head of the screw to the tail of the screw. A wood screw does not have a thread which goes all the way to the head of the screw, but will have a smooth section just under the head section of the screw. When tightening a screw, many screws need to be tightened in a clockwise direction. This is called a right hand thread. In very rare occasions a screw will have a left hand thread.
To ensure that your wood screws stay in place, you have to drill pilot holes as well using a countersink drill bit. This will ensure that the wood does not crack, and that the screw stays firmly in place. Keep in mind that hard and soft wood are different and will require different sized pilot holes and drill bits.
Checking and Monitoring Your Tire Pressure
February 25, 2010 by Jason58 · 3 Comments
Below are some basic steps to checking your tire pressure.
The basic steps consist of the following:
One must determine the proper tire pressure for their vehicle. Most vehicle manufacturers place it either in the driver’s side door jam, console lid, or glove compartment door.
Tire pressure increase with heat so it is best to check your tire pressure when the tire is cold not after you have driven a few miles
The first set should be remove valve stem cap of tire to be checked with working tire gauge Place tire gauge over valve stem until pressure is read. You may hear a slight hissing sound. This is normal as some air will escape.
If your tire pressure is low use the air pump to fill it to the proper pressure. Use the gauge constantly to check to make sure you do not over fill.
If you do at any time over fill the tire remove air by pressing on valve stem needle. You’ll hear a hissing sound – this is normal. Re-check tire until properly filled.
After you have made sure your tire pressure is to manufacture specification I use a device called tire pressure alert. This unit replaces your existing vale cap. The unit measures your tire pressure constantly. If your tire pressure falls 4psi below the initial filled pressure then the valve cap blinds red. This warns you if in any way you are losing tire pressure.
The tire pressure Alert vale cap is great because you’re able to detect any lost of air pressure before you travel. I would highly recommend using such device, its hands free, no need to kick the tire or use a tire gauge after the first fill up and installation of unit. This unit works also on most motorcycles, SUVs and trucks. To pick up these special tire monitor valve caps please go to www.tirepressurealert.com.
Are You Ready for Your UK Driving Test?
February 5, 2010 by Jason58 · 5 Comments
The cost of the UK driving test is not particularly cheap so you will want to be as prepared for it as you can. If you are not ready for your driving test the examiner may decide, in the interests of their own and public safety, to abandon the test. The examiner will leave you on the side of the road and walk back to the test centre.
It is important therefore to be ready for your driving test so it is highly recommended that you seek driving lessons / crash course from local driving schools with qualified driving instructors before taking the test.
The Practical Driving Test lasts about 40 minutes and is conducted by a Driving Standards Agency examiner from your local Driving Test Centre. It is up to you which test centre to use. It can be booked online using the DSA website or by telephone.
You will be tested on the following:
-Eyesight (The distance requirement for the old-style number plate is 20.5 metres. The distance requirement for the number plates that were introduced on 1 September 2001 are 20 metres.)
-Vehicle Safety Checks (Show Me / Tell Me)
-Control
-Moving Off
-Use of mirrors
-Signals
-Response to signs and signals
-Progress and use of speed
-Junctions
-Judgement
-Separation Distances/ Clearance to obstructions
-Pedestrian Crossings
-Parking
-Road Positioning
-Awareness and planning
-Ancillary controls
In addition to the above checks, you will also be tested on any two of the following manoeuvres:
-Turn in the road
-Left Corner Reverse (Right Corner Reverse for vehicles with obscured rear vision e.g. vans)
-Reverse Parallel Park
-Reverse Bay Park (dependent on your local driving test centre’s facilities – this could be at the start or end of your test)
Some tests (normally 1 out of every 3 tests) will additionally be asked to complete the emergency stop exercise.
If you complete the test with a maximum of 15 driver errors (no serious or dangerous faults) you will be the proud owner of a UK driving licence.
If you are unsuccessful, you will have to wait a minimum of 10 clear working days between your original test and any future retest. Whilst you will no doubt be eager to take your test, thorough preparation will undoubtedly help you achieve a pass far quicker than rushing to take it.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
November 24, 2009 by Jason58 · 7 Comments
One of the biggest auto racing events in America is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Sprint took over sponsorship of the NASCAR Cup Series in 2008. The cup series was previously known as the Nextel Cup Series and before that the Winston Cup Series. The Cup Series was changed a couple of years ago to make it more competitive and exciting for the fans. The NASCAR Sprint Cup “Race to the Chase” was established, much like a “playoff” system. After 26 regular season races the top twelve drivers in points are eligible to compete for the Sprint Cup over the last 10 races of the season. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rewards drivers points for leading laps, wins and for the most laps led. Drivers who lead a whole lap during a race receive five bonus points. Five points are awarded for leading the most laps in a race while winning a race gets the winner 10 points.
Owner’s points frequently differ from drivers’ points over the season. It is rare for owner and driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to be one and the same. This is partly due to the structure of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series favouring multiple car teams such as Childress Racing, Goe Gibbs Racing, DEI and Hendrick Motor Sports.
It takes several people besides just the driver to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This ranges from the pit crews who service the cars during the race for the cup to the designers and car builders, who work all year to find ways to improve the cars and gain a slight advantage over other teams. Computers and simulations are used by crew chiefs to help them judge how well a car will perform at the various track configurations.
NASACAR has become of the most popular family sports in the US. It’s a sport that all members of the family can enjoy. Many show up in their RVs and watch the race from lawn chairs perched on their roof. NASCAR fans are very loyal to their favorite drivers. One of the biggest crowd favorites is Dale Earnhardt Jr. His fans are affectionally known as the “Junior Nation”.

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel Nintendo Wii Review
September 8, 2009 by Jason58 · 3 Comments
Next time you are looking for a great addition to any family’s game night just add Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel to your cart. Without a doubt you will have more hours of entertainment for your family than you ever expected. Amazingly the concept is one that is very simple. The game comes with a steering wheel known as the Wii Wheel that your Wii remote fits into and you can use to “drive” for hours.
At the beginning of the game you get to create your own driver’s license. This is how you track yourself through the races you complete and place in. As with any license it has a picture and name. These you design using the avatars that can be altered to fit your personality. The game will pull avatars from your console to be obstacles as well. Make sure to trick out your Wii steering wheel with the grips and stickers if you are getting together with friends!
Play solo or link up with people around the world online. You can line yourself up against up to 12 people online. These people are around the world which is also a neat addition.
The options of playing vary from the multiple player to time trials against yourself, ghosts, which are other experts’ times, or the Gran Prix which is like Daytona with a twist.
The next step in your journey is to choose your character where as with life you can choose to be evil or good (Baby Mario, Mario, Dry Bones, Baby Peach, Toad, Koopa Troopa, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, King Boo, Rosalina, Bower, or your own little “me”). The characters are all intricate and interesting in their own way. Just as Disney did when it created it’s characters starting with Mickey Mouse, Nintendo has expanded it’s characters from the Mario series all the way back to the Mario 64 days and even earlier. These characters are timeless.
Chose your own cart or bike with details from speed, weight, acceleration, handling, drift, off road mini turbo, wheels, rims, and tires differ per vehicle. Manual or Automatic Drift are also options, like in Too Fast Too Furious Tokyo Drift with Nitrous boosters.
Once you have chosen your car and your character it is time to pick the race you wish to run. Chose your circuit racetracks from new and old tracks, some are from Gameboy, Super Nintendo, Game Cube, Nintendo DS, and of course new tracks designed specifically for the Wii. Each of these circuits shows a map of the track on the right hand of the screen. Don’t watch that too close though or the obstacles may wipe you out. These obstacles include but are not limited to 18 wheelers and ice not to mention there is always the risk of just running off the track. These circuits each have 3 levels of difficulty beginner, medium, and expert.
You can complete the circuits for trophies and even get grades on how well you whomp the completion. This grade allows you to unlock more characters, vehicles, and options. In other words, winning is not the only purpose in this game. There are so many more facets that just what place you finish the race.
You are not resigned to be a solo player on this either. You can also play as a team. As with any real racing group, just look at Karters of America Racing Triad and how everyone while in competition works together. Join a team and compete together. Work together to achieve your goals. Or you can battle for balloons or coins, a form of go karting reminiscent to the old game of combat. Possibilities are endless, and looks like the only thing you can’t do is to make money online.
Over all I think the only group who really dislikes the Wii’s would be Washington Internship Institute, for making its name the same as the Institute’s acronym. Or maybe by this time they have resigned themselves to it and appreciate the recognition they get every time someone looks for the Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel by Nintendo.

Transportation problems can become a headache so it is important that you know how you are going to get to Cancun and around Cancun.
Depending on where you live, you can take a plane or drive there for your Cancun Vacations. A travel agent can help you plan this best. You will find that travel agents will help you take care of some of the airline plans and they will be able to get your great rates and will tell you about all of the transportation rules in Cancun and the rules of traveling over the American border into Mexican territory. There are, for instance, certain products that can not be taken to and from Mexico. In recent years, regulations have been tightened, as immigration has become a problem.
It is very important that you try to find your way around the city once you get to Cancun. Taxies are a safe and easy way to travel, since most drivers understand English and have a deep understanding of the places in the city and how to get there fastest. Pontiac Bonneville Suspension parts!
May 25, 2009 by Jason58 · 3 Comments
The most recent Pontiac Bonneville was produced from 2000-’05. This car’s general shape wasn’t too different from the car it replaced. But it was sleeker despite retaining some of Pontiac’s signature ribbed plastic body cladding — particularly on the exaggerated SSEi. This look was cleaned up on the V8-powered GXP for 2004, with a more attractive face and cladding-free sheet metal. Inside, this Bonneville air suspension brought the idea of a driver-centered cockpit to new heights with controls angled heavily toward the driver. Dozens of little gray buttons and switches, eight round air vents, six gauges, an information center and an optional head-up display furthered the jet aircraft motif Pontiac was shooting for. This might sound cool, but it was tremendously busy and grew dated quickly.
This generation Bonneville didn’t change much during its run. It was initially available in base-level SE, midgrade SLE and top-of-the-line SSEi trim levels. The bottom two trims came with a 3.8-liter V6 (205 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque), rear air suspension and a four-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented SSEi boasted a supercharged version of the 3.8 V6, increasing power to 240 hp and 280 lb-ft. These were hardly muscle-car numbers, but the SSEi outperformed other V6-powered large cars of the era like the Chrysler 300M and Lincoln LS. This advantage didn’t last long, though, as horsepower numbers in the 2000s rose precipitously.
The SSEi was replaced by the V8-powered GXP in 2004. This 4.6-liter V8 made a healthy 275 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque and was enough to propel this large sedan from zero to 60 mph in less than 7 seconds. With that much power sent to the front wheels, airbags, the GXP handled it surprisingly well, with decent handling and few complaints about torque steer.
Auto and Car Insurance – Getting the Best Price
May 19, 2009 by Jason58 · 4 Comments
One of the less enjoyable things in life is the need to carry insurance, especially since purchasing it involves a lot of research and shopping around. Here are some tips on what to look for when purchasing auto and car insurance.
Everyone has to have it, but few really understand it. Auto and car insurance often seem like a hassle rather than a protection, but regardless of your attitude toward it, it is a “necessary evil”. It is important to understand how insurance works, as well as the requirements per law, so that you are ready when it comes time to use your insurance.
The premium you pay for auto and car insurance is based on the amount of coverage you want and the risk factor taken up by the insurance provider based on your age, your vehicle, and your driving record. There are a few other factors, but these are all minor and related to these major components. In essence, if you have a history of citations, accidents, or theft, your premium will be higher because you will be seen as a higher risk for coverage. The same is true of young, inexperienced drivers, as well as autos that are older and more likely to break down.
The way that auto and car insurance functions is through the use of collective funds. You and other policy holders pay premiums that are lumped into one sum to be used by the insurance provider to cover incidents for all parties. For example, if you have only paid in $600 worth of premiums but total your car and need to make use of the full $40,000 on your policy, the insurance agency must pull the money from somewhere. The premiums raised from all policies are used to cover such issues, gambling on the probability that there will not be a flood of claims at the same time (much like the way banks use money to provide loans).
Premiums are set for auto and car insurance also based on the area in which you live (based on averages and additional risks due to statistics from your area) it’s called Auto Insurance Commerce. For example, in high traffic areas such as Los Angeles and Houston, you are likely to pay more for your insurance than in Amarillo, Texas, which has a much smaller population and fewer cars on the road, providing less chance of an accident.
There are ways to save on the cost of your auto and car insurance and you may get the auto insurance lowest price available just look around the Internet. You can increase your deductibles, decrease your coverage to the minimum state requirements, dismiss optional coverage, and take advantage of good driver discounts. Many companies will offer discounts for keeping a clean driving record for a certain amount of time and may increase discounts for alarm system installation and driver safety courses. For young drivers, discounts are often given for good grades (maintaining an A or B average).
