Mobility Equipment

Handicap equipment like mobility van conversions, wheelchair accessible vehicles, mobility products, motorized wheelchairs, access vans, etc

This past year, with the help of The Mobility Specialists, we took on the full time commitment of caring for an ill relative. This new responsibility was much larger than we had imagined. Our emotions had clouded the harsh truth of how our lives would be completely remodeled and would evolve around our very sick loved one.

So much had to be taken into consideration. Our home was not set up to instantly accommodate critical care equipment, nor did we possess any of the vital essentials to making life comfortable for my dad. We wanted to give him the luxury of a hospital room with the comforts and privacy of home with out breaking the bank.

We soon learned through our hospice representative that there are local companies who rent every possible piece of equipment that you may need to make this experience easier and more comfortable for our dad.

We tried not to go overboard however, as each day went by, we immediately saw that the list of essentials would grow.

Choosing the right hospital bed was our first decision. There are so many different features. Hospital beds come in three variations, with beds ranging from basic and economical to more advanced models. Not sure where to start? The following overview of what’s available should help get you on your way.

Hospital Bed Frame – This is the first choice in a three-part equation that includes frame, mattress and accessories. The three choices are manual, semi-electric and full electric.

Mattresses – No hospital bed is complete without a mattress. Options are available in foam all the way up to luxury inner coil spring models. Factors in this decision would be the length of need for the hospital bed, daily duration of time spent in the bed and the needs of the patient.

Accessories – Don’t forget the over bed table for snacks of the trapeze to assist with transfers. Hospital bed accessories help complete your homecare environment, making it more comfortable and functional.

All we had to do was remove some of our furniture to a temporary storage location so that the rental company could deliver and set it up for us. This adjustable bed was the key component in providing the comfort and safety that my father deserved.
