Small Bedroom? Try A Sofa Bed

September 2, 2010 by

When your house is too small to house guests the answer is to use a sofa bed which takes no room during everyday living. Thankfully there is a huge variety of styles of sofa beds to choose from and whether they are fold down or pull out metal mechanisms there will be one to suit your home. A day bed is another option for a sofa bed as it is both a bed and a sofa at the same time and takes a regular bed mattress, which many guests will find very comfortable.

Space Saving Sofa Beds

In addition to the space saving benefits of having a sofa bed many young people like to have one in their rooms to allow flexibility of having a sitting room or lounge style room rather than a traditional bedroom. Indeed even in dorm rooms where space is not neccessarily an issue sofa beds are used to allow students to have a space that is a little more relaxed than a sleeping room.

Types Of Sofa Bed

Things have changed in the sofa bed world over time. In the beginning the only ones easily available were very bulky and uncomfortable sofas, however, luckily progress in design and manufacture has produced a huge selection of products that are not only contemporary and beautiful but work well as both couches and as beds. Todays sofa beds are available in a range of materials and finishes, including leather sofa beds and the once lowly futon has recieved many a makeover and can now be found in apartments and homes everywhere, there are even full leather futons for the ultimate in chic simple sleeping and seating comfort.

Some sofa beds have some downsides, however these are usually easily rectified. Metal frame pull out models can be difficult to man handle into position and con often be uncomfortable as they the metal frame can interfere with the sleeper. As irritating as this potential problem can be it is easily overcome by the purchase of a sofabed replacement mattress or seeking out a high quality bed at the time of purchase. Couches that fold down into beds often are uncomfortable at the fold part as it is not natural to have a seam like this in a normal bed, this can be corrected, however with a mattress topper that lays over the whole couch when it is in its bed condition. Daybeds make great beds but not so great couches, which is why they are often relegated to guest rooms and kids rooms as opposed to a living area.

Sofa Beds For Sleeping – Sofa Beds For Sitting

When buying a sofa bed there is often a payoff between seating and sleeping in terms of comfort, the more comfortable the seating, the less comfortable the sleeping and vice versa, the quality of the bed will affect this ratio as well but as a rule of thumb it works. When buying any sofa bed you will be dropping quite a few dollars into the purchase, it would be good practise for you to actually try out the bed before buying it to make sure it is actually suitable.
