Pest control in Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cheshire 2010
July 19, 2010 by Jason58
Pest and vermin control in Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire has seen a lively start in 2010 which is very surprising given the somewhat colder (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.
Pest and Vermin controllers were kept busy with the usual city centre rodent infestations during the winter of 2009/10, but the relatively cold late winter has already provided some ant infestation coming in.
The wet summers of 2008 and 2009 were not to the benefit of the hymenoptera (wasps, bees and ants) but this year looks like it will turn out to be a busy year for ant problems.
Regularly ants make their nests under the floors of buildings and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to infest food store areas.
However it is at the annual mating time when they are at their most troublesome as they create winged queens and males which then fly off to mate.
The appearance of several thousands of these winged ants inside your home can be horrific indeed.
A somewhat new pest was very troublesome in the Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).
It was unusual for pest operatives in Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire to deal with these pests until lately but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in recent years and already this March has seen reports of varied carpet beetle in unprecedented numbers.
Having a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, called woolly bears eat natural fibres and can do substantial damage to carpets and any fabrics. They can be a difficult and tricky pest to eradicate.
Those who ar einvolved in pest control note that Bed Bugs are carrying on their come back in the Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area, regularly arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of returning travellers.
Very often the first reaction of those unlucky ones who realise that they have been infested with these hideous,blood-sucking insects is to destroy the old beds and purchase.
This is a costly mistake as despite their name bed bugs don’t just live in beds and in an infested bedroom will be found anywhere within around five metres of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds become quickly re-infested.
Many people mix up bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both a different type of gatley pest control.
They dine just on blood which they take from their sleeping hosts. People usually associate bed bugs with unhygienic conditions but nothing could be less true, they do not need squalor, their food is you!
